Ron Writes

Have you ever asked the bone shaking question; “Why?” It’s asked countless times at various disasters, funeral plots, and hospital rooms. Why? Why me? Why them? Why now? It’s worded in many ways. It’s one of our biggest questions. How many ways could Job word his “why?” God never offers him an explanation, at least one that’s completely satisfying. It’s as if God were telling him, “You couldn’t get your mind around it even if I told you.” “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD (Isa. 55:8).

Why didn’t Jesus heal Lazarus while he was only sick, as his sisters suggested? Why not get there at least before his body began to decompose and stink? Why weep, didn’t He know what He was about to do?

Why didn’t God prevent Shahrach, Meshach and Abednego from going into the fire? Why didn’t he put the fire out? Why didn’t He destroy the furnace? Instead, He joined them in the fire.

Why didn’t God warn the disciples of the upcoming storm? Why instead did He direct the disciples into the boat? On top of that, why join them in the boat and experience the same fate?

Why didn’t God just eliminate the snakes in the wilderness? Instead, He called for a bronze serpent to be put up.

Why didn’t God eliminate sin? Why allow suffering?  Instead, He joined us on earth. He was tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin? He suffered on the cross to pay the penalty for sin.

Why? God is God! As He continued in Isa. 55, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.” How important is it to know that God is with you? He will never, never leave you nor forsake you.

Why? Why didn’t Jesus come down from the cross as the crowd demanded? They claimed they would believe if He did.

Why? Ironically, we believe – not because He came down – but because He stayed up!
