Steve Says

The first line of the song says, “I’m not ashamed to own my Lord, or to defend His cause, maintain the honor of His word, the glory of His cross.” It’s a beautiful song with a wonderful message essentially saying that I will always hold true to God, and I know that he will hold true to me. The song talks about trust and faith. These things are easy to sing about and talk about but sometimes are hard to live. In Romans 1:16-17 Paul writes:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Again, easy to say, hard to live out at times. Belief is easy, acting on faith is difficult at times. When reading through the book of Acts it seems like acting in faith, even in the midst of danger, was easy for the Apostles. There doesn’t seem to be hesitation, in fact, when Peter and other Apostles were beaten by the council in Acts 5 they rejoiced because of their beating!

How can we build the boldness in our faith that the Apostles had?

I want to start by being clear, the answer is simple, but the solution is not easy. The Apostles had the advantage of living with Jesus, hearing Him speaking and watching Him interact with people. We don’t have that advantage, however, we do have the Word of God available at our fingertips every single day! Can you image how excited the Apostles would have been to have what we have? We also know that the Apostles were devoted to prayer and scripture (Old Testament is what they had at the time). The simple answer to build boldness in our faith is to be devoted to those same things. The more time we spend reading scripture and in prayer the more bold we will become in our faith! Set aside time with God and see how your faith grows!
