Growing up I never really noticed the changes of season. The part of California I grew up in does experience all 4 seasons (although we NEVER got snow in my hometown), but the temperature during the fall, winter, and spring never got super cold. To be honest, I didn’t really care about the changing of the seasons. Living in Texas for 6 years we had four seasons (Hot, Hotter, Hot again, and 2 weeks of cold) but there was no changing of the seasons.
This year the beauty of Fall really hit me. Just last week I was out at Camp Yamhill and noticed how beautiful the fall colors are. With evergreen trees mixed in with those that have leaves turning yellow and red the beauty of God’s creation is almost overwhelming.
Romans 1:18-20 says,
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
God’s creation shows us His beauty and His power. Yet, out of all creation we are the one thing that God said was “very good”. We are the best of God’s creation. We are not just made by God; we are made in His image. We are His handy work. He knew us before we were born, He knit us together in the womb. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Next time you look outside and see the beauty of God’s creation I want you to remember that the beauty in creation is nothing compared to the masterful work that God has done in creating humanity in His image. Remember, God cares about His children in a way that we can’t fully understand.
