It’s that time of year, the end of the school year. For those of us with kids in school it seems like this time of year is packed full of events. Anything from sports, to concerts, plays, award ceremonies, field trips, and even friends visiting it just seems like it’s hard to find a time to rest. Being busy isn’t necessarily bad, but sometimes it feels like we are always on the go and there seems to be no end in sight, that can be daunting.

Have you ever woken up in the morning and your first thought was “I think I’ll take a nap today”? I have a T-shirt that says “Jesus took naps. Be like Jesus. Mark 4:38”. But the truth of the matter is that we NEED times of rest, and sometimes sleeping at night isn’t the rest we need.

In 1 Kings 19, while on the run for his life, Elijah gets to a secluded place in the wilderness and he sleeps, when he wakes up an angel has made a meal for him and after eating, he sleeps again! When we wakes up there is another meal prepared for him! Again, the truth is we NEED times of rest in our lives. Unfortunately, rest is not always easy to find. However, we have rest for our souls in Jesus.

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30

When we come to Jesus we can find rest from weariness of the soul. Our world is crazy and life gets crazy. But Jesus provides us with a rest unlike any other. Better than any nap we could take, Jesus lifts our burdens (if we let Him) and he makes the craziness of life have purpose and meaning. The problem in my life is me! I’m the one who gets lost in the craziness and I’m the one who forgets that the rest I need is the rest that my savior provides.
