We Must Live the Life!

You look good! You have education! You’re smart. Wealth. Safety. Security. Nice places to live. Nice clothes. Cars. The latest technology. Opportunities. You go to church every Sunday. You have heard the Good News. You own more than one Bible. You are blessed!

My two year old dishwasher still looks new. It shines. It looks great. But as I write it doesn’t work. It won’t wash dishes. What do you do with a dishwasher that doesn’t do the job it was created for?

Jesus cursed the fig tree, because while it looked like it offered fruit, there was no fruit to be found (Mk. 11:12-14).

Jesus condemned the man who was given 15 years of wages but did nothing with the opportunity! The worthless guy offered nothing in return, but excuses (Mt. 25:14-30).

The Jewish leaders looked very religious. While they looked the part, they didn’t bring fruit for God but rather for themselves. God saw them as whitewashed sepulchers full of dead men’s bones. (Mt. 23).

The Temple buildings were magnificent, but Jesus predicted that not one stone would be left upon another. While it looked beautiful, it did nothing to change the hearts of its worshippers.

It’s a sobering thought. We can look the part of the Christian, but bear no fruit for God. We are God’s “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Eph.2:10).

We can’t just look the part – we must live the life!
