Mission Report

Zimbabwe, Africa

Former OC member, Scott Mitchell, went with a mission team to Zimbabwe June 14 – July 6 this summer.

One of the highlights of the trip was going to the Mushunje Church on June 21. This is where the missionary we support, Simbarashe Gondo, preaches. This church has only been meeting for three years. They meet in a classroom of a school. They have fired 20,000 bricks, but are needing $450 to stake out their property and build a building of their own.

Gondo took Scott to meet the headmaster and several of the teachers at the school where they meet. The headmaster made several positive comments about Gondo and the great work he was doing for the community and the church.

Then the headmaster asked Scott if he would speak to the entire student body and teachers. There were 907 students and 30 teachers. He spoke on “If I Were Young.”

While he was in Africa, Scott also got to observe how the many items were being used that we, along with many others, sent to the people of Zimbabwe.

Scott was also able to observe “Operation Starfish,” a work many of us have supported. The last report is that they are now feeding 30,000, mostly orphans and widows, a month at nine feeding stations. This is the fifth year that Scott has made this trip.
